Why a Positive Attitude is Important

Are you having a bad day? Okay, that happens to the best and the worst of us.  But you can’t let another rough day stop you from being happy.  Now, you may feel as though its just one hard knock after another (and you might be right), but one of the most important things that you can do is keep a positive attitude.  Now if you are reading this article and already grumbling about how much you hate me and how stupid having a positive attitude is, well, we really have our work cut out for us, don’t we?

The simple fact is that nothing, absolutely nothing whatsoever, can improve until you develop an optimistic outlook.  Having a positive attitude is actually a surprisingly tricky thing for two reasons.  First of all, people are stubborn.  Secondly, people are often highly delusional.  Many of you reading this might be thinking, “I already have a positive attitude.  I am golden in that department.”  Perhaps that is true and perhaps it’s not.  It is one thing to believe you have a positive attitude and quite another to truly have one.  Don’t kid yourself.

Armed with a positive attitude, your chances of achieving success and happiness in life skyrocket instantly.  Are you still not convinced?  Consider this important fact; being happy and having positive thoughts have been proven to reduce stress levels and that, in turn, increases the strength of your immune system.  When you’re feeling good you are also more likely to exercise and choose better foods.

Who is more likely to be happy, the person who is sick all the time or the one that is in good health most of the time?  Having a positive outlook on life and believing that things will get better will actually decrease the amount of time that you are sick.  That fact alone means you have more time to work towards your goals.

Time to Start Smiling

There is truth to the notion that you will become what you ultimately believe yourself to be.  Great people don’t consistently think thoughts like, “I know I am a loser, what is the point?”  I think that we can both agree that Einstein and Mother Theresa rarely thought this way.

Instead, those that achieve in life are more likely to think thoughts like, “Wow, I am so incredibly amazing, God I love myself.  Wow, I am so incredibly awesome, I can’t stand it.”  Fine, maybe that is taking things a little too far, but you get the point!  If you want to achieve your goals, you must first know understand your goals, and then you must have a positive attitude.  Truth be told, without a positive attitude you’re probably just wasting your time.  So smile as though your life depended on it!
